Games with pet recruitment?

i want a game that is not pc or ps1 that has pets that you can like train to fight. no not like pokemon, jewel summoner and the monster ranchers. i want one with like a dog companion, no fallouts either. k and no kiddie pet training games where it is all about the pet. thx.
